LEMONT, IL — The Illinois State Board of Education has released the 2023-2024 school report card Wednesday, and Old Quarry Middle School earned an "Exemplary" rating on the report card for the second consecutive year, the district shared in a release.

The "exemplary" distinction is reserved for the top 10 percent of schools in the state. Old Quarry ranked in the top 3.2 percent of all elementary and middle schools, the district said.

The school report card rating considers the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), an annual test administered to students in grades 3-8, measuring their proficiency in English Language Arts and mathematics. The overall designation is based on academic achievement and growth, absenteeism and climate survey results.

"This achievement continues to echo that we have the three key ingredients for a successful school: supportive parents, a ‘whatever it takes’ mentality from our teachers, and amazing students," Principal Joe Sweeney said. "Our Exemplary rating for the second consecutive year reflects the dedication of our entire school community."

Oakwood, River Valley, and Central schools each earned a "Commendable" rating on the report card, the second-highest designation given by the state.

"We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments at Old Quarry Middle School, earning an 'Exemplary' rating for the second year in a row," Superintendent Dr. Courtney Orzel said. "This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and community. The commitment to excellence is a testament to our collaborative efforts as a district. Together, we’re not just meeting standards—we’re setting them - and we are extremely proud of all of our students and staff in SD113A."
