LEMONT, IL — Two Lemont families have teamed up for a special way to celebrate with the creation of their Pull Up Pubs, a mobile pub rental business.
Ben Black and Mike Carls, who first bonded over their love of woodworking, built the mobile pub, which residents may have seen at Lemont's St. Patrick's Day parade or at other parties or events around town.
Black said he first came up with the idea after seeing a video of people in New Zealand building tiny, authentic pubs for their backyards.
"I thought, 'This is such a cool idea. Is this something we can do here?'," Black said.
He knew that not everyone would have space for a backyard structure.
"Making it mobile opens it up for everyone," he said.
"A lot of people just want it for one special occasion," Black added. "The mobile concept — it's in a driveway today, then it's at a golf outing fundraiser the next day."
Carls said Black asked him if he knew a place to store a trailer.
"He was being coy [about the idea]," Carls said. As soon as he heard the details, Carls volunteered his help.
The two quickly got to work, and except for electrical, they built the pub themselves.
"We had never done a lot of it before," Carls said. "It's been amazing."
While it may be mobile, the pub doesn't lack for amentities. It has heat, AC, two beer taps with keg coolers, a TV with WiFi, a sound bar, a fireplace, bar stools and seating, and full power.
The pub also can run a line of root beer if you aren't interested in just beer for your event.
"The goal is to keep building these," Carls said. A second pub is already in the works.
You can book for your event online and learn more about the business on its website.
