Lemont Holds Public Meeting For Rail Safety Improvement Project

The meeting is set for Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall.

LEMONT, IL — The Village of Lemont will hold a public meeting about a rail safety improvement project on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall.

Village Administrator George Schafer told Patch the project proposes to reconstruct and realign the intersection of Main Street, Illinois Street and Talcott to improve overall safety at the rail crossing.

At the meeting, the Village will discuss the proposed project, answer questions and gather input.

"We are currently in the engineering stages and receiving feedback from the ICC and Canadian National design for the crossing and intersection," Schafer said.

If residents can't attend the meeting, written comment can also be sent in.

According to the Village website, the Village has also taken steps to investigate a "quite zone" designation in the downtown area. This designation would require more supplemental safety measures.

"Within a short distance in its downtown, the Village has five public crossings that would need to be upgraded to meet the requirements for designation," the website shares.
