LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Environmental Advisory Commission will hold its annual fall household hazardous waste collection and recycling event on Sept. 19.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Metra parking lots at 101 Main St. It is sponsored by LEAC and CITGO.
Types of items you can recycle at the event include: batteries, CFL and fluorescent light bulb collection, motor oil, glasses, hearing aids, cell phones, prescription medication, bikes, document shredding, and electronics. Most recycling is free, but there is a $20 fee for flat screen TVs and monitors and a $30 fee for CRT televisions and monitors, according to the event flyer.
Some unacceptable items include: latex paint, unknown materials, flares, gunpowder, explosives, smoke detectors, ammunition, fire extinguishers, radioactive wastes, gas cylinders, infectious waste, needles and epipens.

There will also be a food collection for the Lemont food pantries, and a tree giveaway program.
