Archbishop Cupich to Lead Mass at St. Patrick Church

Cupich will preside over the 5 p.m. Mass on Nov. 14.

Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich will say Mass at St. Patrick Church in Lemont on Saturday, as celebration of the Dec. 8 start of the pope’s jubilee Year of Mercy campaign.

Cupich will preside over the 5 p.m. Mass at the historic limestone church, located at 200 E. Illinois St. in Lemont. The public is welcome to attend at no charge; parking is limited and carpooling is suggested.

Pastor Kurt Boras initially invited the late Cardinal Francis George to visit the church in September 2014, the start of the parish’s 175th anniversary celebration. He was too ill to attend, and following his death, the staff extended the same offer to Cupich.

The parish is recognized as the third-oldest in the Chicago Archdiocese, and the second Irish Catholic Church in Lemont proper.

Cupich’s visit will mark the beginning of Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy, which urges Catholics to show mercy to others and themselves. It will last until Nov. 20, 2016.
