Athlete of the Week: Lemont Outside Hitter Emily Brown
The latest in a series of interviews with star athletes

With only three seniors on the varsity volleyball team, it is up to them to set the example and the tone for their younger teammates on the volleyball court.
senior outside hitter Emily Brown did just that on Tuesday, helping rally her team after a disappointing game 2 against Shepard en route to a decisive 25-16 victory. She had six of her 14 overall kills in the third game and a service ace. Two of the team’s last three points (including the clincher) came from Brown. She was able to poke holes against Shepard’s tenacious defense, which for the most part matched them hit for hit the entire way.
Brown also made a few defensive stops early in game 3, allowing junior Megan Litoborski to set the tone with an 8-0 start for the Indians.

After that flat game 2, you all were able to get out to a huge lead in game 3. How gratifying was that? That was so exciting. Megan (Litoborski) had some awesome serves for us.

And you yourself had a really solid game 3, coming through in clutch moments for the team. Megan had some awesome sets for me to get me set. It was good. We all played great as a team together.
How long have you been playing volleyball? Since I was 9. I’m 17 now, so eight years.
Did you start in club? Yeah. My mom and my older sister got me started.
Do you play other sports? Nope, just this one.
You given any thought about playing college volleyball? I have, but I want to explore other things in my life, you know? My major is going to be really time-consuming and a lot of hard work. I’m sure there’ll be a club team or something like that.
Going with that line, what do you plan on majoring in? Graphic design. I’m taking an internship right now and I designed the homecoming T-shirt and the senior T-shirt that the seniors all wear for the big day.
Do you have any other interests or passions? I do some photography, as well. I take photos with my mom’s camera. She’s got a really nice one.
Last year you made it to sectionals. This year you have a young team. How far can you go? As far as we hopefully can go. We have to become more of a team, but I think we’ll do well. We almost beat St. Francis recently and they’re really good.
