Best-Selling Author to Visit Old Quarry Middle School

Blue Balliet will visit with students and answer questions during her stop at the school Thursday, May 7.

Best-selling children’s author Blue Balliett will visit students at Old Quarry Middle School this week as part of Scholastic Book Fair’s author visit program. During the visit, Balliett will talk about her newest title, Pieces and Players, answer questions from students, share insights about her writing process, and autograph copies of her books for her young fans.

Scholastic Book Fairs author program enables students to interact with an author to understand the process of writing and publishing. Each language arts classroom received a “Discussion Guide to the Novels of Blue Balliett” from Scholastic. This guide enables teachers to provide memorable in-class learning, and it incorporates Common Core State standards. Students will enjoy on-going lessons in reading and writing that remind them of meeting Balliett herself.

Blue Balliett has won a number of awards for her children’s novels. Her first four mysteries — Chasing Vermeer, The Wright 3, The Calder Game, and The Danger Box— have been The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, USA Today, and IndieBound bestsellers. Each combines real settings with an unlikely array of real-world ingredients.
