Being a Mother Was Well Worth the Wait

Today's blog is for all mothers and all women who aspire to be mothers. Take the time and explore, get an education and don't just have children because others think you should.

As a newly confirmed Catholic, I suppose it wouldn't be good to write that I intentionally waited to become a mother. I was married 11 years before I had my daugter. It was a choice, not a chance.

She was worth the wait, as all good things are.

During my tenure as a mother of only "furry children", I was incessantly asked, "When are you going to have children?" or, "Is the plumbing working?" or "Why don't you have children?"

I mean, really, I had to ask myself what was so wrong with waiting?

Our 10th wedding anniversary was January 2000. And on Feb. 14 (cliche, I know), we became magically blessed with our future little sparkle.

She was worth the wait. I'm so glad to be a mother. It was the best thing I have ever done with my life. I'm so glad she's a girl, too. And she's smart, kind and pretty.

So today's blog is for all mothers. For all women who aspire to be mothers. Take the time and explore, get an education and don't just have children because others think you should.

My daughter was worth the wait. Besides, that, if I had had her when I was newly married, she'd be in college — and I wouldn't get to enjoy her cute little face, every day, right here, right now.

God bless all mothers of furry children, too. I posted pictures of my daughter and furry children, too.
