Enough with this Stuff: A Resident's Take on the Latest District 113A Lawsuit

Sue anyone you'd like, but stop talking about it.

The following post was written by Patch blogger Catherine Stukel in response to the against Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A.

I don't know much about Lemont educational politics, but I have learned a thing or two about boards, committees and educational policies in my tenure as a community college teacher. So, I'd like to impart my words of advice, here and now, because, after all, this is my blog and you can post your opinions or heck, even create your own blog.

So my first words of wisdom are: close your pie-holes; be discrete; keep your lawsuits away from the press, as much as possible. Stop aggravating a bunch of the community, put your nose to the grindstone and work out a solution that stops dragging our community through the mud.

In short, I was given professional advice by someone who survived for decades in the turbulent area of academe. Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut. This doesn't mean to avoid or not work on problems. But work on solutions. Stop drawing bad press to our town — no matter how right you are. Stop it.

This one's suing that one. We all get it. Now, stop your whining and start being discreet. Solve the problem. The press can and will print anything it can — that's their job. But the more you talk about it, the more negative attention this town gets. And quite frankly, we all know that we don't really deserve any more negative attention.

So, sue anyone you'd like, but stop talking about it. Keep your pie-holes shut. We all "got your back" and appreciate the inconsistencies and violations. But keep it out of the eyes of the public.
