I Don't "Run" Lemont—I Swim, Bike AND Run Lemont

What a busy weekend for fitness-minded folks in Lemont!

Today marks the start of my new blog on Lemont Patch. I hope it is of much interest to folks in the community as it is to me. I plan to share what I know about what is going on around the town of Lemont in terms folks taking advantage of fitness opportunities. The reason I decided to start today is twofold. First, I finally had time to go through all the various administrivia that the Patch provided to set up my blog. Second, there was so much going on over the past 3 days that I felt that this was the best time to share some of the happenings with you all.

Friday night (April 13) began with threatening skies and a 10-team track meet at Lemont High School with both the boys and girls teams from LHS participating. Teams came from as far as Lake Forest to the north and Beecher to the south to participate. There were some amazing races and a few young folks who I am sure I will see going to the state meet in May.

I got to volunteer in the concession stand, along with many of the boys and girls from the LHS swim team.

You have probably seen many of the students who run the distance events running around town shortly after school gets out each day.

Then on Saturday morning, again under threatening skies, a group of about 20 hearty souls met in downtown Lemont to have a training run for the upcoming 10-mile and 5K road races dubbed the Quaryman Challenge (more on that event in my next blog). The training run was organized by the Trismart triathlon group (more on them in an upcoming blog I am sure).

And finally on Sunday, a recently formed group of Lemont cyclists (and a couple of non-Lemontians) got together (once again under threatening skies) and had a training ride of about 25-35 miles, depending on where folks started and finished on the Centennial Trail.

This is just a sample of what types of opportunities are available to folks in Lemont and the neighboring communities should they choose to take advantage of them. My plan is to keep folks aware of the things I know about in the area, focusing more in the future on upcoming events rather than events that have already transpired.

I know there will be activities that I am not aware of and for that I apologize up front, but hopefully you will all find this blog enlightening and maybe even entertaining
