LCF - What the Heck is the LCF? Bikers Come Join Us!!

The Lemont Cycling Federation is a newly formed group looking to stay fit and extol the virtues of Cycling in Lemont and the surrounding areas. Come Join Us!

There is a liitle known, but highly motivated band of cyclists in Lemont that have formed a group called the Lemont Cycling Federation (LCF). This group meets just about every weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday, early morning or early afternoon and rides bikes together on the Centennial Trail. The group consists of both men and women. If you would like to be added to the email list, please send me an email at runlemont@gmail.com.

The rides are generally between 20-30 miles or 1.5 -3 hours and are both a great workout and a good deal of fun.  The nice thing about Centennial Trail is you can cut it short multiple times inf you are time or energy constrained. Several folks are training for triathlons (most are members of TriSmart)  later this summer, but others are just out to ride, meet new people and stay off the couch for a couple hours on the weekend. We invite all folks to join. Some folks with some very interesting stories are included in this "Federation".

Rides have included folks on road bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes (though they may have to work pretty hard) and so far no recumbent or tandem bikes, though they'd be welcome to join. All we ask is that you be willing to obey the rules of the trail and have a good attitude.

If you live in Lemont and like to ride a bike and you have never jumped on the Centennial trail, then you are missing one of the pure joys of riding a bike. The Centennial trial is flat, the pavement is smooth, the course is mostly tree lined or shaded and you can see the Lemont/Argonne lighthouse (did you know we had a lighthouse?).

One of our typical rides is to start at the south end of the Lemont St bridge, ride for a couple of hours and end up at Front Street Cantina on a Sunday afternoon. They will gladly seat us (surprisingly inside even without a shower) and our family members will join us for Sunday dinner. Front Street has nice cold water, wonderful hot food and delicious chips and salsa among other wonderful meal choices, and although I have never experienced it, I hear the serve a great Margarita or Long Island Iced Tea.

Lastly, for those who wanted to tell me they were interested in joining a running club but did not know where to email me ( I got 3 replies, one to my wife's email and 2 from folks I ran into on bikes) please use the following email (runlemont@gmail.com) to get in touch with me.

Stay Fit my friends!!
