I have written several articles now and each multi-game recap seems to contain a win/tie combo or—my favorite—the win/loss/tie triple play. The team just couldn’t seem to pull off consecutive wins in recent months.
Last month, the Trojans won their game against the Rage. Then, over the January 21-22 weekend, the team won both of their games. It’s a winning streak in its earliest stage, but a winning streak that we haven’t seen since October.
On Jan. 21, the Trojans hosted Leyden on their home ice in Darien. We faced this opponent for the first time back in November. Leyden was coming off of an undefeated pre-season, but the Trojans were fired up that night and won that game 3-1.

These were not the same two teams coming together two months later. The Trojans dominated this game from the beginning and never slowed down the pace. Bryan Roy started the scoring deluge, with an assist from Joe Paloian. Then, with less than two minutes left in the period, the Trojans scored three more times!
In a great shift, Kyle Millinowicz scored on an assist from Bryan Dirst. Thirty seconds later, Danny Desmond scored, assisted by Kyle Millinowicz and Bryan Dirst. Coach Sal changed the lines and within 10 seconds Joe Paloian scored, assisted by Bryan Roy. None of these were power play goals either.

And we still weren’t done. Toward the end of the second period, defenseman Dan Lebed scored on a shot from the point, assisted by Mike Cronin and Kyle Millinowicz. Then, only 30 seconds later, Danny Desmond scored a second time, assisted by Bryan Dirst (playmaker!).
The final Trojan goal was scored in the third period by Bryan Dirst, assisted by Kyle Millinowicz (playmaker!). And yes, up to this point, our defensive lines and all-star goalie (Joey) had kept Leyden scoreless. Unfortunately, in a burst of momentum, our opponent was able to score their one and only goal of the game. The Trojans walked away with a 7-1 win.
On Jan. 22, the Trojans traveled to Crestwood to face Providence. Once again, the Trojans were a force to be reckoned with and took charge from the moment the puck was dropped.
Danny Desmond scored the team’s first goal in the first period, assisted by Bryan Dirst and Kyle Millinowicz. Before the period ended, Bryan Roy scored the team’s second goal, assisted by Joe Paloian and David Ulanski. Joe Sambucci started off the second period with an unassisted goal. Shortly after that, Danny Desmond scored, assisted by David Ulanski, the team’s fourth and final goal of the game.
Our strong defense held Providence to only 11 shots on goal and our amazing goalie, Joe Stolfo, stopped each and every one (shutout!).
