Chief: Reports of Gunshots in Lemont Unfounded

Residents' reports of gunshots heard May 3 in Lemont have been determined unfounded, Lemont Police Kevin Shaughnessy said.

The shots were reportedly heard around 3:45 a.m. and again around 4 a.m. Saturday, May 3, near Stephen and Main streets. Shots were also later reported around 131st Street and Derby Road, Shaughnessy said. Police investigated and found no signs of shots being fired. No damage was spotted, no witnesses came forward, Shaughnessy said. 

The sounds might have been fireworks, he said. 

Residents should call police at 630-257-2229 if they hear similar sounds in the future, he said.
