Christmas 2018 Forecast: Will IL Have A White Christmas?

While there won't be any snow on the ground before Christmas, we may see some flakes on Christmas Day. According to the National Weather Service, Monday, Dec. 24, will be sunny and have a high of 37 degrees. Light snow will begin late Christmas Eve night and will continue into Christmas morning before changing to rain.

The NWS said there could be accumulation of snow around a half inch. The week will be very mild in temperatures, and Christmas day has a high of 41 degrees.

Temps will warm up even more on Wednesday, which has a high of 43 degrees. Rain could start Wednesday night and Thursday. Thursday will also be a mild December day, with a high of 53 degrees possible. The rain will stick around on Friday and there's a chance of rain and snow on Friday night, the NWS said.

• MONDAY: Sunny, with a high near 35. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
• MONDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of snow after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 27. South southwest wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the evening.
• TUESDAY: Snow likely before 11 a.m., then rain and snow likely between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., then a slight chance of rain after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
• TUESDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of rain and snow before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 41.
• WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of rain after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
• THURSDAY: Rain, mainly after 7 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 50.
• THURSDAY NIGHT: Rain, mainly before 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 42.
• FRIDAY: A chance of rain, mainly before 7 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.
