A long-term forecast released earlier this month by the Old Farmer's Almanac had raised hopes for Christmas romantics, predicting a good chance of snow on the big day. Historical data gathered over years by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, however, showed that chances were low. O'Hare had a 37 percent chance of at least once inch of snow, Romeoville had a 40 percent chance and Crystal Lake had a 39 percent chance.
