Christmas Events In Lemont: Tree Lighting, Frigid 5K, PJ Night

There is lots to do in Lemont in the lead-up to the holidays.

LEMONT, IL — There is no shortage of things to do in Lemont to get the winter holiday season off to a rollicking good start.

Christmas and Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, intersect this year, with Hanukkah running Dec. 18-26. Christmas, of course, is on Dec. 25, but you don’t have to wait to start taking in all the sights and sounds of the holidays.

Lemont will hold its annual Hometown Holiday event on Dec. 3. The event will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Lemont.

Hometown Holiday will include the annual tree lighting at 5 p.m. at Front Street next to Next Mex. There will also be crafts, kids activities, face painting, stories with Mrs. Claus, as well as a Ferris wheel and carousel rides.

The Lemont Park District is also offering the 14th annual Frigid 5K on Dec. 4. Runners can wear their best ugly sweaters and holiday gear. Online registration is closed, although you can still register on race day for $50.

Finally, if you're looking for a fun, family event where you don't have to dress up, you can register for the park district's Merry and Bright PJ Night on Dec. 9.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the CORE, and is for ages 2 and up. It is $10 per resident, and you should register in advance for the program.

The PJ Night will include a visit with Santa, pizza, DJ, a craft and a family pajama contest.
