Cold Front Will Drop Temps Into The 50s Friday In IL
Freezing temperatures are possible by Friday night.
ILLINOIS — Some cooler, fall-like temperatures will quickly sweep across the area on Friday. The National Weather Service said a strong cold front will push across the area Friday morning. Temps will be near 70 on Friday morning, and will quickly drop to the 50s by the afternoon.
As the front approaches, there will also be a chance for some heavy rain and possibly some thunderstorms. Higher temperatures will occur in the morning, and temps will be near 70. The weather service said behind the front there will be breezy west winds which will cause falling temperatures Friday afternoon and evening. After the front moves through, temps will drop to the 50s.

Temperatures could then fall to the upper 20s to lower 30s late Friday night into Saturday morning.

With freezing temperatures possible, sensitive outdoor plants or vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered, the weather service said. On Friday night, temps of 34 degrees are possible in Joliet, 33 in Elgin, 32 in Rockford and 37 in Chicago.
