College Credits: Students Earn Award, Perform In Holiday Show

Area students are doing amazing things at colleges and universities across the United States.

Lockport's Kelly Part of WIAC Championship for UW-Whitewater Football

Quinn Kelly, of Lockport, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, which clinched at least a share of the program's 38th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship last Saturday with a 13-7 win against UW-La Crosse in front of 11,991 fans at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater.

Kelly, a freshman at UW-Whitewater, is an undeclared major.

With the win, the Warhawks (9-0 overall, 6-0 WIAC) earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs, which begin Nov. 20.


Lewis University's Zeta Xi Chapter Wins National Award for Service

The Zeta Xi Chapter in Lewis University's College of Business was recently recognized by the national business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi for its outstanding service. The national award for Outstanding Service Award for a Collegiate Chapter is presented on an annual basis to the collegiate chapter of Delta Sigma Pi that plans and implements the most effective and comprehensive program of service to others.

The Zeta Xi Chapter includes several local students:

David Bruining of Lockport, studying Economics
Daniel Reyes of Romeoville, studying Computer Science

Christmas at Augustana College

The Augustana College Department of Music presents Christmas at Augustana, on Dec. 4 and 5, in Centennial Hall.

Presented by Quad City Bank & Trust, Christmas at Augustana is returning live after a one-year hiatus. Student musicians will take the stage to share their talents in what has become a highlight of the Augustana and quad cities holiday season. Featuring performances by the Augustana Brass Ensemble, Augustana Symphony Orchestra, Ascension Ringers, Augustana Choir, Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble and Augustana Concert Chorale.

Andrew Whetter of Homer Glen, will perform with the Augustana Brass Ensemble; and Leah Pengiel from Lemont, will perform with the Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble.


Daniel Spaccapaniccia named to Dean's List at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Daniel Spaccapaniccia of Bolingbrook was named to the summer 2021 trimester Dean's List at Palmer College of Chiropractic's main campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Palmer College of Chiropractic, the first and largest college in the chiropractic profession, has campuses in Davenport, Iowa; San Jose, California; and Port Orange, Florida.


Lewis is First in Illinois at DOE Cybersecurity Competition

Lewis University computer science and cybersecurity students finished as the top team in Illinois and 10th overall the 120 schools at the Nov. 12-13 Department of Energy Cyberforce Competition.

The annual competition engages students from hundreds of schools in an emergency cybersecurity scenario in which one of the nation's critical infrastructures comes under attack. The students work for two days fortifying systems that are supposed to keep the infrastructure running against a variety of attacks. They also have to document their systems and protections, a very important aspect of all cybersecurity work.

Nicolas Formella of Lockport, Ethan Justice of Romeoville and Ryan Syed of Romeoville were among the local students representing Lewis University in the competition.
