Community Leaders Visit District 113A

Visitors toured the schools and got an up-close look at students' learning experiences.

On Wednesday, September 9, more than 20 community leaders joined together to learn more about the learning experiences in District 113A and to tour the district’s three schools. To begin the morning, student leaders from Old Quarry Middle School greeted visitors and shared their own experiences within District 113A.

Board of Education President Cindy Kelly opened the program by welcoming the community leaders. President Kelly’s greeting was followed by a message from Mayor of Lemont, Brian Reaves, and Mayor of Woodridge, Gina Cunningham. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Courtney Orzel, presented the Strategic Plan and outlined future goals and the vision of the District.

Visitors were invited on school tours led by the principals and assistant principals of each building. Tours highlighted important facets of teaching and learning and the important work of the District 113A staff members. Leaders described the school visits as “impressive” and specifically noted the district’s commitment to engage students in interactive, hands-on learning activities. Programming opportunities and academic accomplishments in District 113A were highlighted during school visits.

One community leader commented, “The best part of the day was experiencing education today first-hand and interacting with students who are learning in new ways. I felt inspired and so proud.” Another mentioned, “I am constantly in awe of how wonderful our district is in providing our children with the latest technology and tools for their educational journey.”

The District will be providing a State of the District presentation to all community members on Wednesday, October 7 at 6 p.m. at Old Quarry Middle School. Interested participants should R.S.V.P. to Colette Condon at ccondon@sd113a.org.
