LEMONT, IL — District 113A in Lemont has now delayed the first day of the school year. The district was set to start school on Aug. 17, but classes will now start with a half-day on Aug. 20, according to a letter from Superintendent Anthony McConnell.

The Illinois Department of Public Health issued new guidelines for schools on Wendesday. McConnell said in the letter that the "vast majority" of guidance mirrors what the district was already planning.

"However, there are a few brand-new aspects that the district has to make sure we have in place before a return to learning can occur," McConnell said. "We have worked hard over the past two days to have these in place before Monday, but in the end we will need a few more days to prepare for students to be back in the building."

"However, we need to make sure we have all possible precautions in place and are following all guidance and recommendations from the state as the safety of our families, students and staff is our top priority."
