D113A Fifth-Graders Will Move Back to River Valley

District 113A board members unanimously signed off on the fifth-grade students moving back to the level's previous home.

Lemont-Bromberek District 113A board members Dec. 18 unanimously agreed to move the district's fifth-graders back to River Valley.

The board had indicated informal approval of the relocation from Old Quarry during a Nov. 20 meeting.

The fifth-graders were shifted to Old Quarry Middle School from River Valley after Central School closed at the end of the 2010-11 school year.

"The move of fifth grade to Old Quarry was never meant to be permanent," said board member Dave Molitor, at the November meeting.

A presentation from the earlier meeting detailed that moving the students back to River Valley will more evenly distribute the overall enrollment of the district, breaking it down to 570 students at Oakwood, 815 at Old Quarry, and 730 at River Valley.

Transition activities will span January through August, and the board previously stated that logistical aspects of the move will begin in spring 2014.
