D113A Offers 5-Day In-Person Learning Or Remote Learning

Students who attend in-person school will need to wear masks and undergo daily symptom and temperature checks.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A will offer families two options as it returns to school in August. Families can choose a 5-day in-person option or full remote learning.

According to a release from the district, it will offer full-day instruction for students in grades 1-8, and half-day instruction for preschool and kindergarten.

Families will be asked to clarify their choice, and those who choose the remote-only option would be locked in until the end of the first trimester.

“We are very pleased to be able to provide greater clarity for families and offer some options for their consideration,” Dr. Anthony McConnell, District 113A Superintendent, said in a release. “At the same time, we must remind everyone that a return to remote learning may occur at any point in the school year, depending on the conditions surrounding COVID-19. We are prepared to make that transition if needed.”

A survey was provided to staff and parents, and the district said results showed a majority of parents desired that schools open in the fall. About 30 percent preferred a hybrid approach and about 13 percent said they prefer a remote format only, the district said.

According to a release from the district, students who attend in-person school will need to wear masks and undergo daily symptom and temperature checks. They will be assigned to classrooms and cohorts where teachers—including in art and music—travel to classrooms rather than students moving through the building. Many students will eat lunch in their classrooms instead of the cafeteria.

“We continue to work on the details, but we are confident that we can welcome students and staff into our school buildings while minimizing risks this school year,” McConnell said in a release.
