D113A to Spend $750,000 in Technology Upgrades
The board approved a plan that will expand the district's bandwidth and improve system reliability.

The Lemont-Bromberek District 113A board members approved $750,578 in technological upgrades during its Dec. 18 meeting.
The plan, contracted with Sentinel Technologies, includes tweaks that will increase wireless access in the classrooms, limit system downtime, and provide 10GB bandwidth.
The total rang up $94,000 higher than the original proposal, after the addition of an improved email spam filter, a new wireless security system and more efficient fiberoptic cabling. The newer cables threaded throughout the buildings will help with accommodate the increase in bandwidth from the district's current 1GB, to 10GB.
A more powerful wireless network will be necessary as students and staff start using new computers.
The district has budgeted $359,098 for technology upgrades in 2013-14. The district has preliminarily priced a three-year lease for a $650,000 expenditure that would include an annual payment of about $228,000, according to district documents.
The board will price-check other lending institutions and options for longer term leases and bring these options for consideration by the board in January.
