District 113A Holds Public Hearing on 8 Percent Property Tax Levy Hike

Lemont-Bromberek District 113A board members tentatively approved an 8.09-percent property tax levy hike Nov. 6. Before final approval, a public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 at Old Quarry Middle School.

Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the topic of a proposed 8 percent increase in the property tax levy. The hearing will take place Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., at Old Quarry.

The board signed off on the tentative 2013 property tax levy during a Nov. 6 meeting. 

The estimated total amount to be levied tallies $24,542,857—representing an 8.09 percent increase from last year.

The total includes:

  • $19,574,000 in corporate and special purposes property taxes. $15.5 million for educational purposes; $2.2 million for operations and maintenance purposes; $1 million for transportation (to name a few)
  • $4,968,587 in taxes levied for debt service and public building commission leases.
The board's adoption of the tentative levy is required by state law. Before it can proceed with final approval of the levy, it is required to hold a public hearing, with proper notice for the public. The levy must be approved by the final Tuesday in December. 

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 17, at Old Quarry Middle School.
