“It is my honor to represent the 82nd District, using my experience as mayor and as a CPA to continue to focus on economic issues and the quality of life for residents,” Egofske said in a release. "After 27 years in corporate business as a job creator, I look forward to working with anyone, from any party, who shares my goals to lower property taxes, address crime, and keep jobs in Illinois."

Egofske has been credited with reforming municipal finances in Lemont and developing and executing a "robust" business plan, according to a news release.

“John Egofske is a proven business leader and outstanding public servant,” said former State Rep. Durkin. “His success in the Village of Lemont prepared him to solve the problems facing our state.”

Egofske received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from Benedictine University, and is a registered Certified Public Accountant.

"I would like to thank the local Republican leaders of the 82nd Representative District Committee for my appointment to the 82nd District," Egofske told Patch. "We are proud of our prominent communities in our district, and I look forward to representing our constituents by serving the remaining term recently vacated by retired Leader Jim Durkin."

Egofske told Patch that his primary first role is mayor of Lemont. He does not accept a salary as Lemont mayor, and will decline a state pension.

"We have several exciting projects and initiatives that are in various stages and I look forward to continuing to serve and add to that strong momentum," he said.
