Five Lemont Students Earn National Spanish Examination Medals

LEMONT, IL — Five Lemont High School students earned “medalist” status on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations, which were administered earlier this year. The school said students earn medalist accolades by scoring in the 75th percentile or better on their respective exams. Students who score at or above the 95th percentile are awarded the “Premio de Oro” (Gold Award); students who score between the 85th-94th percentiles on their exams earn the “Premio de Plata” (Silver Award); and students who score between the 75th-84th percentiles on their respective exams receive a “Premio de Bronce” (Bronze Award).

Sophomore Katelyn Parent was Lemont’s top performer, earning the “Premio de Plata” award in Spanish II. Juniors Anish Sabnis was awarded “Premio de Bronce” honors in Spanish IV, as were juniors Christopher Duda, Manisha Joseph and Gabrielle Salomon in Spanish III.

Since 2011, Lemont has seen 12 students combine for 14 “Premio de Oro” honors: Katie Atherton ‘15 (Spanish II, 2013), Misbah Chagpar ‘16 (Spanish II, 2014; Spanish III, 2015), Jorge Garcia-Arcicollar (Spanish IV, 2017), Jacob Gasienica ‘16 (Spanish III, 2015; Spanish IV, 2016), Kristen Malloy ‘16 (Spanish III, 2015), Andrew Gonzalez ‘18 (Spanish I, 2015), Dennis Healy ‘16 (Spanish III, 2015), Daisy Medina ‘15 (Spanish II, 2013), Julissa Nuñez ‘16 (Spanish III, 2015), Kyra Udziela ‘15 (Spanish 1, 2014), Stephanie Valle ‘19 (Spanish IV, 2017) and Victoria Zajec ‘13 (Spanish II, 2011).

Six Lemont students have earned four NSE medals in their careers: Atherton, Malloy, Mira Antonopoulos ‘17, Claudia Jazowski ‘17, Natasha Joseph ‘17 and Lauren Pengiel ‘18.
