Franciscan Village in Lemont has announced Dorothy Harris, Human Resources Assistant, is the recipient of the Franciscan Ministries’ 2019 Lighting the Way Ministry of the Year Award. Dorothy was presented her award at the inaugural 2019 Associate of the Year recognition dinner on January 23 which honored an exemplary employee from each of their 10 locations across the Midwest.

According to Executive Director Daniel Bannon, Dorothy has worked in a variety of roles during her 46 years at Franciscan Village. She has changed and evolved with the community, but her commitment to the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago has never wavered. Dorothy has a very humble spirit and always downplays the extra things she does for the residents and those around her.”

The awards were presented to those individuals who exhibit exceptional dedication and commitment to the mission and values of Franciscan Ministries, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, on a daily basis. Each honoree was nominated by their location’s leadership team and met a series of requirements demonstrating how their actions support a Living Joyfully workplace culture.

“What a blessing to have representatives from throughout Franciscan Ministries come together for the celebration. In the senior living industry, everything we do is for the benefit of our residents. The actions of the honorees, both big and small, truly matter to the people we serve. This event is our opportunity to remind associates that their contributions have far reaching implications—and for that we are grateful,” said Vice President of Mission Integration & Pastoral Care Dawn Mayer.

The honorees represented a wide range of roles and responsibilities within the communities, and their actions epitomize the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”
