Freeze Warning, Temps In The 20s Possible: Illinois Weather

ILLINOIS — It may be May, but you wouldn't know it with a freeze warning and temps in the 20s expected Friday night. A freeze warning has been issued for most of northeastern Illinois until 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temps will be in the upper 20s to low 30s Friday night, the weather service said. These low temps will kill crops and other sensitive plants.

After the freezing temps Friday night, temperatures are expected to rise back to the 50s. Saturday has a high of 59 degrees, while Sunday has a high of 57. The weather service said Saturday will be sunny and dry, but there is a chance of rain and even thunderstorms on Sunday.

Temps are expected to rebound as the work week begins, and Tuesday will be back to near 60 degrees.

SUNDAY: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.
