Freezing Rain, Ice Expected Friday Night Before Warm-Up In Temps

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Friday night due to freezing rain and ice.

Before the dry and sunny weather on Saturday and Sunday, there will be freezing rain Friday night. Most of the area has been issued a winter weather advisory, which is in effect starting at 11 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday for DuPage, Cook, Livingston, Iroquois and Ford counties. According to the advisory, a wintry mix is expected to start Friday night, with a total accumulation of about 1/10 inch expected. Wet snow accumulations of up to one half inch are expected north if I-80.

After the freezing rain on Friday and early Saturday, the rest of the day on Saturday will be dry with temperatures up to 47 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will also be dry and sunny with a high of 50 degrees.

  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Freezing rain before 4 a.m., then freezing rain likely, possibly mixed with snow. Low around 30. East northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • SATURDAY: A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 9 a.m., then a slight chance of snow and sleet between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 45. East northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear, with a low around 27. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • SUNDAY: Sunny, with a high near 54. West southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.
  • MONDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
