Early Frost Possible Before Late Weekend Warmup: Illinois Weather

Saturday will be cooler with highs in the 60s, while Sunday will have a warm-up with temps close to 80 degrees.

With a chance of frost for some of the area this weekend, it's clear that fall has definitely arrived. The southern suburbs should be safe from the frost, but a frost advisory has been issued for some of the western and northern suburbs, according to the NWS.

It will only be 34 to 36 degrees in north central Illinois on Saturday morning. If you are under the advisory, the NWS said you should cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors for protection.

Saturday during the day will also be cool, and there is a high of 65 expected. Sunday will be warmer with a high of 79 degrees. According to the NWS, there will be a warm-up starting Sunday and going into the work week. Temperatures will creep back into the 80s on Monday and Tuesday.

Rain is also possible this weekend. There is a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday night and early Sunday. According to the NWS, there is also a chance of rain on Sunday north of I-80.

  • SUNDAY: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.
