Girl Scouts Assemble Tote Bags for Chemotherapy Patients
The students at SS Cyril & Methodius School in Lemont were joined by Jessica Brubaker for inspiration.
LEMONT, IL - Kindergarten and fourth grade girl scouts at SS Cyril & Methodius School in Lemont were joined by Jessica Brubaker, the founder of the encouraging #bettereveryday campaign on Facebook, in assembling tote bags for chemotherapy patients at school on Friday.
Nearly 20 girl scouts at the school filled the bags with markers, water bottles, girl scout cookies and other items. The items will be sent to area hospitals.
Creating the tote bags was “a way to heighten the spirit of those going through treatment and bring a smile their way,” according to a parent involved with the girl scouts.

Brubaker, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 32, provided the inspiration for the students. She began her #bettereveryday campaign as a way to encourage others to overcome challenges by approaching them from a place of healing rather than a place of fight.
