Groundbreaking Held For Central School Renovations, Addition
The project includes renovations for the entire school and a 9,040-square-foot addition.
LEMONT, IL — Renovations and construction for a new addition at Central School will now begin after a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday.
"Lemont has grown and continues to grow," Board President Damon Ascolani said, adding that he believes the strength of the schools is a key reason people are moving to Lemont.
Central School has been closed since the 2011-2012 school year, but with a successful referendum this past spring, the school will reopen after it undergoes needed renovations. The district will also begin its full-day kindergarten program with the start of the 2022-23 school year.

"It has been a decade since children sat in the classrooms of this school," Superintendent Anthony McConnell said during the groundbreaking, adding that he was excited to get students and teachers back in the building.
According to the district, there will be a 9,040-square-foot addition to the building, as well as 50,440 square feet or renovations. The school will include 23 classrooms, seven resource offices, an art room, music room, gymnasium, library, STEM lab, breakout rooms, teacher support space and an expanded main office area.
