Haunted Central Named Finalist In Governor's Hometown Award

All projects honored will receive a plaque and a road sign honoring these achievements.

LEMONT, IL —Lemont has earned a 2018 Governor's Hometown award for Haunted Central. Haunted Central was a haunted house held at Central School and was a partnership between Lemont Bromberek CSD 113A Educational Foundation and the Hope and Friendship Foundation. In 2017, the event raised $18,000 which helped fund innovative educational programs at District 113A and help local families in need.

According to a release, the Governor’s Hometown Awards program gives formal recognition to communities that contributed to their community’s quality of life via projects that had strong volunteer support, met a need, and made a definitive impact.

Haunted Central was deemed a cup finalist, which makes it the best project in its population division, according to a release. The other cup finalists included: Aviston, LaSalle County and Oak Lawn. The commission will now choose one of the cup finalists as the overall winner. The winner will be announced at a reception on Nov. 15.

A reception will be held at the Governor's mansion on Nov. 15 to celebrate the winners. All projects honored will receive a plaque and a road sign honoring these achievements.
