Hour-By-Hour Look At Friday's Extreme Heat For Chicagoland

An excessive heat warning will take effect Friday morning and will continue through Saturday night for the Chicago area.

If you're spending some time outside this weekend to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day holiday, you will want to be careful and dress very cool. An excessive heat warning has been issued starting at 11 a.m. on Friday morning through 7 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, afternoon high temperatures will be in the mid 90s, and peak heat indices will be in the 110 to 120 degree range. The high temperatures, combined with sunshine and humidity, will lead to potentially hazardous conditions. There will be little relief at night, as temps will remain near 80 degrees.

The NWS said the highest heat indexes will be Friday and Saturday afternoon. To be safe in the heat, you should stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or in the shade. The NWS advises to minimize sun exposure and to wear sunscreen and light, loose-fitting clothing if you're outside.
