110-Degree Heat Index Hits IL This Weekend

Say goodbye to the cooler June temperatures, as a heat wave will hit the area starting Friday. According to the National Weather Service, Friday will start the heat wave with temperatures between 87 and 91 degrees.

The rest of the weekend will be even hotter, and humid. Saturday will be between 92 and 96 degrees, with a heat index of 100 to 110. Sunday will be even warmer, with temperatures between 94 and 98 degrees, with a heat index of 100 to 110, according to the NWS.

The heat will stick around on Monday, with temps between 89 and 95 with a heat index between 89 and 105 degrees.

If you find yourself without power or without air conditioning, it's a good idea to find a local cooling center. You'll also want to take some precautions to stay safe in the heat. Some tips from Ready.gov:

• Find air conditioning.
• Avoid strenuous activities.
• Watch for heat illness.
• Wear light clothing.
• Check on family members and neighbors, especially the elderly.
• Drink plenty of fluids.
• Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
• Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

According to the NWS, there are also chances for storms throughout the weekend. Storms are possible Friday before 1 p.m., and then late Friday night after 1 a.m. The chance for storms returns on Monday, where there is a slight chance of storms throughout the day.

Here's a look at the next few days as the temperatures begin to rise:

• THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph in the morning.
• THURSDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southeast wind around 5 mph.
• FRIDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73.
• SATURDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 94.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 76.
• SUNDAY: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 77.
• MONDAY: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92.
• MONDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
