Inch Of Rain Possible, Colder Temps Return For IL

With the arrival of spring comes the arrival of some spring showers. The National Weather Service said moderate to heavy rain is likely Friday evening into the overnight hours, primarily south of I-80. Rainfall totals over one inch are likely, and that could cause minor river and lowland flooding along portions of the Illinois and Kankakee basins.

The suburbs north of I-80 will see less rain, with the Joliet area receiving between half an inch to an inch of rain. The north suburbs will see the least amount of rain, between a quarter of an inch to a half an inch of rain.

Rain could continue into early Saturday, and temps will remain cooler this weekend with a high of 45 expected on Saturday and a high of 44 on Sunday, according to the NWS. Sunday will also be sunny and dry.

More seasonable temperatures will return as the work week begins, and a high of 52 is expected on Monday, the NWS said.

• FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers, mainly after 7 p.m. Low around 36. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
• SATURDAY: A chance of rain and snow showers before 8 a.m., then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 23. North wind 10 to 15 mph.
• SUNDAY: Sunny, with a high near 41. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 28.
