Inch Of Rain Possible, Storms Likely Throughout Weekend In IL

ILLINOIS — Rain, thunderstorms and temps in the upper 70s and low 80s can be expected this weekend. On Friday night, storms will gradually increase in coverage, and are most likely overnight. The NWS said the risk of severe thunderstorms is low. However, there could be locally heavy rainfall with some storms, especially along and south of I-80.

Storms are also possible on Saturday and Saturday night, according to the NWS. Scattered severe storms are possible late Saturday afternoon into the evening, and again are more likely along and south of I-80.

Temps will get up to 77 degrees on Saturday, the NWS said. Sunday will be even warmer with a high of 82 degrees. According to the NWS, the further south you live, the higher the rainfall amount forecast is. The Joliet and Chicago areas will see around an inch of rain, while the Waukegan area will be around half an inch of rain.

New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• SATURDAY: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 75. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 62. South southwest wind around 5 mph becoming east northeast after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
• SUNDAY: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
