​Lemont Advances Singles, Doubles Entries To Tennis State Finals

The boys' tennis program will be represented in state finals competition for the 13th time in 14 years.

LEMONT, IL — The boys' tennis program will be represented in state finals competition for the 13th time in 14 years. The school said head coach Jon DeGuzman’s squad advanced entries in both singles and doubles to the 2019 IHSA Class A Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from May 23-25 and hosted by High School Districts 211, 214 and 220.

Junior Max Celis will compete in singles, while the tandem of seniors Shaan Pal and Nathan Pawlak will participate in doubles. The school said all three will be making their state finals debuts.

Celis, who will enter the state finals with a 10-12 record, placed fourth in singles; he clinched his state finals berth by winning his first two sectional contests. Celis finished second in singles at the South Suburban Conference-Blue Division this season.

The tandem of Pal and Pawlak won its first two sectional contests as well, then triumphed in the third place match. The duo, which placed second at the SSC Blue Meet, enters the state finals with an 18-6 record.

According to LHS, Lemont advanced competitors to the IHSA State Finals each season from 2006-17, and won IHSA Sectional titles in both 2013 and 2017. DeGuzman’s squad placed second in the SSC Blue this season, and won 12 straight SSC Blue titles from 2007-18.
