Lemont Clergy to commemorate the National Day of Prayer

At noon on Thursday May 3rd, Lemont Clergy will hold the annual commemoration of the National Day of Prayer at the Lemont Police Department.

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

Lemont Clergy will lead a local National Day of Prayer service to be held at the Lemont Police Department (14600 127th St, Lemont) at noon on Thursday May 3rd. All are encouraged to join in this ecumenical service celebrating our freedom to join together to offer prayers for our community, our state, our nation, our world; for those who serve, for those who struggle, and for our own special intentions.

Lemont Pastors have led this commemoration at the Lemont Police Department for the past few years and have enjoyed the opportunity to join together with so many of the community that they serve within.

The theme of the National Day of Prayer 2018 is Pray for America - UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, "Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."

If you miss the noon service and would like to partake in an evening commemoration Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1195 McCarthy Rd, Lemont, will be holding an evening commemoration at 6:30 p.m. www.ebclemont.com
