The village of Lemont is honoring the community football league for its 50th anniversary.

LEMONT, IL — The village of Lemont has declared Sept. 23 as Hornets Founders Day. The Lemont Hornets is a league with several football and cheerleading teams for children in the community. To kick off the anniversary, the Hornets will hold a celebration from 12 to 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at Crystal Grand Banquets in Lemont. The living founding fathers of the league, Ron Nagel and Pete "Patrick" Polk will be in attendance to meet current Hornets families and reminisce about 50 years of the league. The families of the other four founding fathers will also be in attendance; the families of Bernie Kazich, John Kickels, Don Heeg and Don Weigand.
