Lemont Earns Multiple Medals At 2018 IDEA State Competition

LEMONT, IL — For the third time in four years, Lemont High School has recorded two medals at the state’s top drafting contest. The school said the trio of seniors Aaron Bromberek and Kendrick Tran and junior Alex Fugiel equaled the best state finals finish in school history by placing as the runner-up in the Engineering Design competition at the 2018 Illinois Design Educators Association State Competition, which was contested at Illinois State University on April 14. Making his second state finals appearance in as many years, senior Jake Wilk placed third in the Architectural Board category.

In the Architectural Board category, students are challenged to design and/or draw specified views, details or sections using provided materials, specifications and drawings. In the Engineering Design category, a student “firm” of two or three students complete a presentation and project solution to sell their firm’s design to a client.

According to the school, at least one Lemont student has advanced to state competition in 10 of the last 11 years, and in 2018, the school’s Technology Student Association advanced students in three events. At the IDEA Regional at Joliet Junior College on March 2, Wilk (1st, Architectural Board) and senior Zach Counsil (2nd, 3D Architectural CAD Modeling) earned individual medals, while Bromberek, Fugiel and Tran won in Engineering Design. Wilk became the first Lemont student to win multiple IDEA Regional titles, as he repeated as the champion in his division.

The IDEA State Competition features ten divisions, including: Architectural Design, Engineering Design, Introductory Board, Introductory CAD, Architectural Board, 2D Architectural CAD, 2D Machine CAD, 3D Architectural CAD Modeling, 3D Assembly Modeling, and 3D CAD Modeling.

The school said Lemont’s drafting program, under the tutelage of teacher Scott Duensing, has had a great deal of success in recent years at the IDEA Regional level.
