Lemont Ends Electric Aggregation Program

Residents who are currently in the program with AEP Energy will receive notices from ComEd that the term is expiring.

LEMONT, IL — The Village of Lemont will not be offering an electric aggregation program to residents after the AEP Energy contract expires in October, according to a notification from the Village.

Residents who are currently in the program with AEP Energy will receive notices from ComEd that the term is expiring. The Village said the program was a 24-month period at a fixed rate of 7.081 cents/kWh which expires on Oct. 2.

"The Village of Lemont has determined that the current competitive rate structure for the electric aggregation program does not offer an overall lower bundle pricing as it has in the past," the Village said in a notification to residents. "Therefore, we will not be offering an electric aggregation program to Village of Lemont residents after the AEP Energy contract expires in October 2023."

Residents who participate in the program will automatically receive their electricity supply through ComEd. ComEd is a distribution company only; ComEd does not generate electricity itself and has no power plants, the Village said.

Residents can still purchase their electric supply from a number of retail electric suppliers. Residents are free to choose who they want as their retail electric supplier or remain with ComEd’s supplier.

"Since we are not seeking an electric aggregation agreement at this time with an RES, we will not be sending out any notifications nor will we call residents stating that we have chosen a new supplier," the Village said.
