Lemont Extreme Cold: Closures, E-Learning Days

Both Lemont High School and D113A will have e-learning on Friday.

LEMONT, IL — With dangerously cold wind chills expected Friday, many schools are moving to e-learning, and libraries and other organizations are closing for the day. In Lemont, closures include:

  • Lemont High School, no in-person classes on Friday. Students will participate in e-learning. Competitive activities on Friday are expected to be held as scheduled.
  • Lemont SD113A will use an e-learning day on Friday. All after school and evening activities are canceled on Friday.
  • Lemont Park District's preschool and early childhood classes are canceled Friday.
  • Lemont Park District's youth programming is canceled Friday (aquatics, gymnastics and athletics).

OPEN:

The Lemont Public Library reminded residents that it serves as a designated warming center. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

However, the library's Jan. 23 session of Move & Groove is canceled.

Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero are expected for the Chicago area on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. An extreme cold warning has been issued from 3 a.m. to noon on Friday for the area.

The cold will begin Thursday night, when temperatures could get as low as -14, and wind chills could be as low as 40 below zero. The cold continues into Friday morning, and by Friday afternoon, wind chills could still be as low as 25 below zero, according to the weather service.
