Lemont Finishes Ninth At IHSA Boys’ Golf Class 2A State Finals
Lemont High School's boys' golf team placed ninth of 12 teams at the 2017 IHSA Class 2A State Finals.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s boys’ golf team placed ninth of 12 teams at the 2017 IHSA Class 2A State Finals, which were contested on Oct. 13-14 at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal. Senior Raymond Sullivan was the team’s top finisher and became the first golfer in school history to play in four IHSA State Finals events.
LHS said Sullivan finished with a +7 149 (76-73) over 36 holes, which tied for 18th individually and was his best two-round score in his four state finals appearances. His final round of +2 73 tied for the sixth-best round of the day. Sullivan finished among the top 20 in Class 2A for the second time in his career; he tied for 12th individually as a sophomore in 2015 when he shot +10 152.
According to LHS, Sullivan narrowly edged senior Jack Kramer as the team’s top state finals performer. Playing in his third state finals, Kramer tied for 21st by shooting +8 150 (75-75). Seniors Matt Grasman (t-79th; +27 169) and Nate Stieber (t-84th; + 29 171) and sophomore Grant Sullivan (t-97th; +36 178) rounded out Lemont’s top five, while juniors Chad Biggs and Connor Douglass each played one round.

Head coach Mark Hollatz’s Indians advanced to the state finals after finishing as the runner-up at the IHSA Lemont Sectional at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport on Oct 9. According to the school, Kramer and Grant Sullivan tied for second individually with even-par 72s, while Stieber tied for ninth with a +5 77. The top three teams from each of the IHSA’s four Class 2A Sectionals advanced to state finals competition, along with the top 10 individuals from schools that did not qualify for state finals team competition.
