Lemont Fire Chief Announces Retirement
Rimbo started with the fire district in 1988 as a paid on-call firefighter.
LEMONT, IL — Lemont Fire Protection District Fire Chief George Rimbo has announced his retirement, effective Aug. 30. Rimbo has worked for the district for 31 years.
According to a release, Rimbo started with the fire district in 1988 as a paid on-call firefighter. He was hired full-time in 1989, was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant in 1994, Battalion Chief in 2009 and fire chief in 2013.
During his time at the fire district, Rimbo has seen it grown from 1,000 emergency calls a year with an all paid on-call response and one station, to 4,100 emergency calls a year with 54 full-time firefighter/paramedics, 17 support staff and four fire stations. According to a release, he helped the district achieve financial stability and started the accreditation process with the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

In the release, Rimbo complimented the hard work of the employees of the district and thanked those that supported him.
