Lemont Firemen Association Preserves Department's History
A group of firefighters maintain the nonprofit association, and a special piece of equipment dear to it.
If you’ve attended some village events, chances are you’ve seen the vintage fire truck emblazoned with the Lemont Fire Department name.
The 76-year-old engine maintains its place in the town’s history with appearances at town events, with the help of the Lemont Firefighter’s Association—and funds raised by its 18 members. The group keeps the truck running, waxed and ready to roll out of the garage to public events.
“We keep the history alive,” said Mike Kasperski. “We’re the volunteer organization that keeps the history going.”

The engine—purchased in 1938 and in service until 1977—was restored in 1980 and is housed in a small garage near Lemont Fire Station 1, which has been completely renovated with donations from local home improvement stores and hard work from association members. The truck is driven to roughly 15 events each year, including cruise nights on Wednesdays, car shows, parades and other functions.
The engine will next appear at Kops -n- Kidz, set for Saturday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centennial Park.
