Lemont High School Chess Team Tops Conference
The team took first in conference for the second consecutive year.

Lemont High School’s Chess Team recently won its second straight South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title. The team finished the conference play with a record of 11-1. It is 23-1 in SSC competition during its current conference title run; it was a perfect 12-0 in the 2013-14 school year.
Senior Bailey Fox led all SSC Blue chess players in points and was the top player on the 1st Board. Junior John Knutte (3rd Board) and freshmen Savva Zeglin (5th Board), Brianna Carlson (6th Board) and Aaron Swenson (7th Board) also earned first-place finishes on their respective boards this year. Senior Ryan Nilles (4th Board) and junior Mackenzie Fox (8th Board) were the SSC runners-up at their boards.
The junior varsity team also won its SSC title after posting an 11-0-1 record this season.
The team will compete in the IHSA State Finals on February 12-13 in Peoria, Ill.
The team is coached by Lemont High School mathematics teacher Ken Suslek.
