Lemont High School Honors April 2026 Students Of The Month

The honorees were senior Ava Amato, junior Connor Wiles, sophomore Evelyn Szumski and freshman Elise Ator.

LEMONT, IL — Four Lemont High School students were honored with April Student of the Month accolades at the district’s Board of Education meeting on April 20, the high school shared in a news release. The honorees were senior Ava Amato (English), junior Connor Wiles (Industrial Technology), sophomore Evelyn Szumski (Social Studies) and freshman Elise Ator (Center for Academic Vision & Excellence).

Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community, the school said.

Brad Grcevic, of Edward Jones, Inc. (Lemont), contributes a donation each month to a charity selected by the award winners, the school said. This month’s winners selected Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue to receive the donation.

Elise Ator, Freshman, Center for Academic Vision & Excellence

Elise Ator was cited as the Freshman Student of the Month by the Center for Academic Vision & Excellence (CAVE). Elise is a high honor roll student whose favorite class is Physical Education. She approaches each class period with purpose and determination. Elise’s teachers applaud her for using Freshman Academy productively, taking advantage of meaningful collaboration, and utilizing extended time to review material thoroughly. She truly has used Freshman Academy as an opportunity to develop self-discipline and time management. Elise is a member of the girls’ swimming program and a Special Olympics volunteer. In the future, she hopes to become a special education teacher. In her spare time, Elise enjoys spending time with friends.

Evelyn Szumski, Sophomore, Social Studies

The Social Studies Department tabbed Evelyn Szumski as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Evelyn’s favorite subjects include English, mathematics and art. Taking her first Advanced Placement class, she works hard in AP Psychology to stay up to date with material and connect with information at a deeper level. She routinely asks questions in class to better understand the material and is genuinely motivated to learn the content, leading to a strong aptitude for the subject of psychology. Evelyn is a member of both the Leo Club and the girls’ track and field team. Her
future plans include becoming a Human Resources Manager or otherwise working within the business field. Evelyn works
part-time and enjoys going to the gym, crafts, drawing, music, and doing her hair and nails.

Connor Wiles, Junior, Industrial Technology

Connor Wiles was selected as the Junior Student of the Month by the Industrial Technology Department. Connor is a high honor roll performer whose favorite class is Advanced CAD II Honors. He puts forth his best effort on each project and is willing to assist his classmates when needed. His teachers describe him as self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of thinking critically to solve problems both independently and as part of a team. Connor helped the cross country team to a
conference championship last fall, is a member of the track and field team, and was in the top three in his category at the Illinois Design Educators Association Regional this spring. He plans to go college and looks forward to building his own house. Connor likes all kinds of outdoor activities, including running, biking, fishing, skiing and camping.

Ava Amato, Senior, English

The English Department named Ava Amato as the Senior Student of the Month. Ava is a high honor roll student who most enjoys Journalism and AP Government & Civics. Ava is in her eighth semester in journalism classes and serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. She is heavily
involved in planning and leading staff meetings and is a significant behind-the-scenes contributor who makes the newspaper better. In College Writing, her work is inspired and passionate, and she asks smart questions and provides sharp thoughts. Ava is a member of the girls’ track and field team, and has earned induction to the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society. She plans on studying public
policy at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ava enjoys reading, listening to music, and driving around with her friends.
