Lemont High School Honors December Students Of The Month

Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community.

LEMONT, IL — Four Lemont High School students were honored with December Student of the Month accolades at the district’s Board of Education meeting on Dec. 21. The district said the honorees were senior Angela Fidanzo (Social Studies), junior Olivia Brown (Remote Learning), sophomore Mahmoud Yacoub (English) and freshman Giovanni Rendina (Industrial Technology).

Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community. According to the district, selections rotate among the school’s various departments from month to month. Only 32 students earn “Student of the Month” accolades each school year, with four individuals honored each month from October through May.

Local businessman Brad Grcevic, of Edward Jones, Inc., contributes a donation each month to a charity selected by the Student of the Month award winners. This month’s winners selected the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund to receive the donation,t he school said.

Giovanni Rendina, Freshman, Industrial Technology

Giovanni Rendina was tabbed as the Freshman Student of the Month by the Industrial Technology Department. Giovanni states that his favorite class is Orientation to Industrial Technology. His teachers applaud his tremendous work ethic, as he works diligently on all his projects. He is conscientious and polite, and is an outstanding contributor whether in person or participating in remote instruction. Giovanni is not afraid to ask thoughtful questions, and perseveres through challenges. Put simply, he makes class better for everyone. He is interested in joining the Bass Fishing Club and plans on trying out for baseball in the spring. His primary goal at this time is to succeed in class and graduate high school. In his spare time, Giovanni enjoys baseball and fishing.

Mahmoud Yacoub, Sophomore, English

The English Department cited Mahmoud Yacoub as the Sophomore Student of the Month. Mahmoud lists English II, Chemistry and Integrated Math II among his favorite classes. He has made an impression in his first semester after transferring to Lemont High School. Mahmoud has particularly excelled in English II and Communications, and his work often is used as examples for the class. He shows up every day ready to engage, and is an asset to the classroom because of his willingness to ask questions. Mahmoud is looking forward to joining the boys’ soccer team in its upcoming season. He has his sights set on attending college and becoming an orthodontist. In his free time, Mahmoud enjoys e-commerce and playing games.

Olivia Brown, Junior, Remote Learning

Olivia Brown was selected as the Junior Student of the Month thanks to her efforts in remote learning. A high honor roll student, Olivia’s academic interests include science, math and Spanish. A National Honor Society inductee, she is involved in many activities, including Science Club, World Languages Club and the badminton program. Olivia demonstrated great leadership and responsibility as a drumline captain in the Marching Band this fall. Her teachers appreciate her remote learning efforts, noting she always is prompt and paying attention, and does an outstanding job advocating for her mastery in class. She plans on attending college after graduation. Olivia enjoys exercising, taking care of animals, yoga, photography, and as a passionate coffee drinker, trying everything Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks have to offer.

Angela Fidanzo, Senior, Social Studies

The Social Studies Department named Angela Fidanzo as the Senior Student of the Month. Angela
is a high honor roll student who greatly enjoys social studies classes, and has great interest in
psychology and sociology. President of the Interact Club, she also is a member of the Dance Team,
and has earned induction into the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and Rho Kappa. Described as one of the school’s most kind and sincere students, Angela is a natural leader who allows nothing to hinder her academic achievements. She shows maturity beyond her years and takes each opportunity as a learning experience. She plans on attending Central Michigan University and hopes someday to become a counselor. Angela works at Salon 312 and enjoys exercising and listening to music.
