Lemont High School Hosts Post-Secondary Planning Event

There will be informative workshops and breakout sessions on the wide variety of opportunities available to students after high school.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s Student Services Department will host Post-Secondary Planning Night from 6:30-8:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. The school said the evening will include informative workshops and breakout sessions on the wide variety of opportunities available to students after high school. Attendees can participate in whatever sessions their schedules will allow.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission will present an overview of the FAFSA process in the Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Beginning at 7:05 p.m., students can “choose their own adventure” and attend a session on the college search process, the Fine Arts admissions process, or career options in the construction industry.

Then, beginning at 7:40 p.m., the school said workshops will address the college application and admissions process, as well as military options such as direct enlisting and ROTC programs. Finally, at 8:15 p.m., the College of DuPage will present on its innovative 3+1 Bachelor’s Degree program, and the presentation on military options will be repeated.

Additionally, an ISAC representative will be available from 7-8:30 p.m. in N230 to assist seniors and their families with the FAFSA. Attendees can drop in at the FAFSA help session as their schedules allow; there will be no formal presentation.

According to the school, presenters will include: Yanika Barfield (Illinois Student Assistance Commission), Ryan Cockerill (Lewis University), Justin Hardee (College of DuPage), Nathan Lalone (Wheaton College), Sgt. Matthew Orzech (U.S. Army), Johnetta Ryan (Construction Industry Service Corporation/CISCO) and Alexandra Salas (Florida Atlantic University).
